You've seen it in "Home alone", you've seen many pictures. The Christmas tree from the Rockefeller Centre is appreciated by several million people every year, and is chosen by Channel Gardens' chief gardener every year.
The Christmas tree first appeared on the Rockefeller Centre construction site in 1931 and was decorated with cranberries, cans and paper chains. Two years later there was an official ceremony to light the lights, but not yet as loud as it is today. The first broadcast of this occasion took place in 1951, and in the 1960s it was the first time the celebrities started to lead the ceremony.
