Wales
A little bit forgotten…
When we’re thinking about United Kingdom, we usually think about people emigrating, looking for new jobs and opportunities… What we forget is how beautiful and diverse country is that! From mountainous Scotland, through marvellous English land full of castles and cathedrals to Wales with fabulous hills and beaches with cliffs and great walking paths.
There’s no surprises when someone tells you that he’s going to walk in Polish Bieszczady, Beskidy or to Gdansk to spend some time walking at the seaside… but it’s not very common that you can hear that someone is going to Wales to do the same! I was lucky enough to visit part of South Wales so I can share it with you now.
1. Cheap flights!
Cheap airlines opened a travelling path for many people. If you’re lucky can get a ticket to Cardiff or Bristol for as much as train ticket from Cracow to Poznan!
2. No fees for mountains and seaside!
If you’re a real globetrotter, who like hiking, walking and absorbing marvellous view – Wales is for you! And obviously you won’t pay a penny for it!
3. Brecon Beacons
A mounting range in South Wales w a magnificent scenery and varied walks available. The paths are well prepared, so you don’t have to be overly experienced to hike in Brecon! The highest peak is Pen y Fan (886 m) and if you look carefully you can see fossilised sand ripples as the top of the mountain is a remain of an ancient beach.
And what I loved the most were semi-wild horses walking just next to you!
4. Barry Island
Very busy during half term and holiday time as located very close to Cardiff. Wide beach, nice walking path as well. Plenty of cafes and restaurants, really nice place for a weekend away.
5. Rhossili Beach
I think that was one of the most beautiful beaches I’ve ever seen! The wide, sandy beach surrounded by cliffs, where I could see crabs as well as starfish. It’s important to check tides table if you want to walk to Worm’s Head as the water goes up quickly! Fortunately, there are coast watch in place to care about tourist’s safety!
