Color matters

Hi everyone!

Today I would like to tell you about a phenomenon I heard about some time ago, although I recently drew more attention to it - the importance of the colors of vegetables and fruits in our diet.
I didn't like vegetables for most of my life, but I ate fruit in huge quantities. Few months ago I decided to make quite a radical change - I introduced a lot of legumes into my diet and started to prepare vegetables that I didn't like at the beginning in a more varied way. I finally realized how good nature is for us and how important it is to be aware of a balanced diet.

  • So, let's start with white vegetables/fruits, such as garlic, turnip, mushrooms, potatoes, horseradish, cauliflower (and many more). Did you know that they have antibacterial properties and anti-inflammatory effect? What is more, they strenghten the immune system and the blood vessels, and also provide a lot of sulphur, which affects the condition of skin or hair..

  • Yellow and orange: we need to remember about melon, pineapple, corn, peach or pumpkin if we want to take care of our sight. They filter "blue light" which is harmful for the eyesight, but also catch dangerous substances from the body, such as cigarette smoke oror highly processed food. They help to prevent lung cancer, cardiovascular diseases, promote the proper development of the fetus, and the lutein contained in them helps men to maintain sexual fitness.

  • Green: when talking about green products such as spinach, kale or dill, we must remember about chlorophyll in green snacks - it is a pigment that takes part in the transport of vitamins, nitrogen and oxygen. You know the so-called "happiness hormone"? Without folic acid in green vegetables or fruits, production of serotonin is almost impossible! Apart from these factors, it is worth mentioning the most important one - green products cleanse our body of toxins and our liver and kidney.

  • Red: what do watermelons, cherries, tomatoes, radishes and hearts have in common? A color! Coincidence? I don't think so. Thanks to red products we improve the work of our hearts, regulate blood pressure and lower cholesterol levels. In addition, eating red vegetables and fruits also serves to maintain proper skin condition - it reduces the formation of wrinkles and strengthens joint tissues.

  • Last but not least: violet. By eating aubergines, plums, blackberries or blueberries we supply the body with minerals such as phosphorus, potassium, calcium, iron and zinc. Purple fruits and vegetables contain ingredients that have a positive effect on digestion, an anti-cancer effect in the digestive tract (they inhibit the development of cancer cells) but also support the heart and prevent heart attacks and strokes.
